Flintlock 3-Gun

There was some talk bandied around at the Kidshoot about a flint-lock 3-gun "competition" this fall.

Dr. Mike has been busy squirreling away black power and casting lead ball this summer.

So, is there any interest? We're planning on Columbus Day Weekend (October 12). Dr. Mike will supply the guns, the powder and the ball.

And I have the timer!

  4. I will defer to Dr. Mike on that as I wasn't there for the orginal discussion. I'm just the cruise director.

OTOH, maybe my matchlock will come out to play...

  5. I'm proposing using IDPA timing and targets, but add a zero to the end of any penalties, and allow a blade strike to count as a hit. Figure three targets per stage, so you have one for longarm, one for handgun, and one for blade (cutlass, bayonet, axe or dirk).

Probably pick up a bundle of the paper IDPA practice targets to put on the cardboard backers I have. . .

    1. Oh I think at least one reload for the long-arm, but a bayonet stage should be mandatory.

  6. I think that timer is inadequate for how "quickly" I can load a flintlock. Can I bring a calendar?

  7. Ohhhhh! That is such a cool idea. Any experience with flintlock weapons required?

  8. No experience necessary. We'll teach you how, and talk you through the loading and firing process as needed.

  14. Hi guys,

We are still in the planning stage but for the most part I think this will be more of a school of the pirate. I want the focus to be primarily on flintlock or earlier weapons. If this one turns out O.K. then we can look at going to percussion weapons. With what I am bringing out, I figure we can stay pretty busy.

    Dr. M.
